Last step was to add a 4x4 to the corner and frame out the rest of the wall. Having removed all the studs the siding was left with little to hang on to, so we had some new "windows" as some of the siding gave way. I was able to nail it back up, and caulk it so at least some heat stays in. One of the next steps is to re sheet the outside.
And blamo! Its in. After a first dry fit, there were a few adjustments with the sawzall. Jeff luckily had the truck, which has a truck jack, which allowed us to jack the ceiling just a bit, and squeeze her in. The final fit was accomplished with clamps, which were able to pass through the old transom window and literally squeeze the header into its final home. BTW, framing nailer for $70, well worth it. Who wants to toe nail?
Jeff lent a needed hand to place the 4x8x8' header in the South wall. Lots of sawzall, and lots of sledge to get all the old stuff out of the way. Here Jeff is ratcheting a 4" bolt into the right side king stud. We added a 2x8 for temporary support, and all upper studs were bolted to the joist for extra support.
